Scalp Conditions

There are many different types of scalp conditions that can cause symptoms such as itching, flaking, redness, and hair loss. Some of the most common scalp conditions include:

Dandruff:

This is a common condition that causes white, flaky skin to form on the scalp. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including a yeast infection, an overproduction of oil, and sensitivity to hair care products. Dandruff can affect both men and women.

Seborrheic dermatitis:

This is a type of skin condition that causes red, scaly patches on the scalp and other areas of the body. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including hormonal changes, stress, and a weakened immune system. Seborrheic dermatitis is more common in men than in women.

Psoriasis:

This is an autoimmune disorder that causes red, scaly patches to form on the scalp and other areas of the body. It can be hereditary and can develop at any age. Psoriasis can affect both men and women, but it is more common in men.

Fungal infections:

Fungal infections, such as ringworm, can cause itching, flaking, and hair loss on the scalp. Fungal infections can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor hygiene and a weakened immune system.

Contact dermatitis:

This is a type of skin reaction that can be caused by exposure to irritants, such as hair care products, dyes, and chemicals. Contact dermatitis can cause redness, itching, and flaking on the scalp.

Scarring alopecia:

This is a type of hair loss that occurs when scar tissue forms on the scalp, preventing hair from growing. Scarring alopecia can be caused by a variety of conditions, including fungal infections, lichen planus, and lupus.

It's important to seek the advice of a hair and scalp specialist or trichologist if you are experiencing symptoms on your scalp, as early treatment can help prevent further damage and improve the health of your scalp and hair. Different scalp conditions may require different types of treatments, so it's important to get an accurate diagnosis in order to find the best course of action.
